What curriculum and/or methodology is used in instruction at Thales Academy?
Thales Academy’s time-proven curriculum of liberal arts and sciences-centered on reading, writing, and arithmetic – develops a child’s critical thinking skills. Teachers in all grade levels follow the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Parents may view the Standard Course of Study by visiting North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction (www.ncpublicschools.org). Thales Academy employs a Direct Instruction (DI) method, for instruction of core curriculum. The goal of DI is to accelerate learning by maximizing efficiency in the design and delivery of instruction. Some of the delivery elements of DI are rapid pacing and choral group responses, which are punctuated by individual turns. Each DI program is skills oriented using carefully articulated lessons in which cognitive skills are broken down into small units, sequenced deliberately, and taught explicitly. While using DI, teachers are consistently able to test for mastery of each objective being taught. This format allows fo
