Keep in mind the following criteria (over and above the general ones I give in the short essay guide ): (1) One challenge for writing this paper is to bracket your own political views. We all have criteria that we use (implicitly or explicitly) for evaluating political systems and policies. I don’t want a paper about those. I want you to tease out the criteria that are suggested by the biblical texts we have been reading over the past two weeks. (2) The other challenge is to get beyond generalities: “politicians should be obedient to God” or “political systems should follow God’s will.” Who can argue? Of course these are genuine criteria, but they have to be specified, given concrete parameters or else they are useless.
