What criteria are doctors using to determine whether a person has developed SARS ?
The following criteria are used: • The presence of symptoms such as a fever (above 38oC), cough, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing; • the presence of clinical signs of respiratory distress or radiological signs of viral pneumonia, or one or more positive tests identifying the SARS coronavirus; • and, the fact that the person has recently travelled to a zone where local transmission has been reported (in particular China), or has been in close contact with an individual diagnosed with the syndrome.
