What you take in high school is not important to be a teacher. It’s only important for preparing you to qualify for college. College courses however are a different thing altogether. I’m going to assume you’re looking for maximum flexibility and security in you job as well as teaching some form of social studies subjects. To do this you want a Bachelors Degree in Social Studies. (This is usually a B. Ed. Degree.) This will allow you to teach any subject in the social studies field should there be a reduction in staff because of budget cuts or reduced numbers in student enrollments. A Bachelors Degree is accepted in most states in the United States for teaching certification if it is in the subject you wish to teach.
