What courses are needed to be a veterinary technician?
The American Veterinary Medical Association lays out course material required to be covered in any veterinary technology degree program in order for it to be accredited. This is important because most states require that a person earn a degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program in order to sit for the National Veterinary Technician Exam and any state board exam required for credentialing in a particular state.So, while veterinary technology programs may have courses that are called by different names they all must provide an education that covers certain topics in order to be able to be accredited by the AVMA. To find out the names of specific courses that must be taken at a particular school in order to earn a degree in veterinary technology you need to check the curriculum for that school.
