What country could be the next superpower and challenge the USA?
Trust me, Russia won’t be a superpower again. There economy is in shambles and they are getting poorer every year. Also, we won’t let them claim the entire arctic, it will remain split up the way it is and there is nothing Russia can do about it. I think that it is China that we have to keep an eye on (if we need to keep an eye on anyone). Though recently their economy hasn’t been great they are the only single nation that I can see that has any potential to rival us. But if you consider the EU a nation then they have the greatest potential to be the next superpower. They have a strong united economy and they are extremely influential in the world. The only thing that prevents them from already being considered a great superpower is that they aren’t that united (yet) and they really don’t have that much military might. But I think it is only a matter of time before they get more organized and become stronger that they will get the mantle of world superpower.
The biggest challenge to USA is USA itself. That is the rule of nature. See the King of the jungle Lion & Tiger, they do not have any threat for life. They hunt other animals and live comfortably. They don’t have to run for defence. But see their population now. There are only countable numbers available in the jungle. On the other hand, grass eaters deer, goat, bulls etc they always run for their life and their life in danger both due to animals and human beings. Their race never seems to end. This is a lesson in life. It applies to rulers. The more powerful they are, the faster their dynasty ends.
I just wanted to say that most of the responders are living about 10 years behind the times. Russia’s economy is not in “shambles,” unless of course having John Lipsky, Director of the International Monetary Fund, comment on your economy as being “enviable” means it sucks… Seeing as how most of the people here apperantly haven’t paid any attention whatsoever to any of the recent news concerning Russia’s resurgence, it might help to let you know that by 2020 Russia’s economy is projected to be the second largest in Europe, and the fifth or fourth largest in the world. That’s in 13 years…not a long way off. Russia is restoring it’s military might and it is no wonder most military analysts consider Russia’s military to be the overall second best in the world, behind the U.S. military. China’s tech, meanwhile, is at least two decades behind that of Russia and the U.S. While China will continue to upgrade and develop new technology, neither Russia nor the U.S. will stay stagnant and jus
My guess is that China is well on the way to super power status that could be more adversarial toward us than Russia, depending upon how serious the powers that be in Russia are about democracy. If Putin and his successor are as anti democracy as their harshest critics contend, then you could be right. India is also coming up fast, but for all our differences with them, they are democratic and I think that will keep our competition as friendly as reasonable. That will be especially true if Pakistan is taken over by a faction that is very radical, in which case India and The USA will have a sudden need to form a close alliance.
