Lancaster County was formed from Chester County in 1729, Delaware County was formed in 1789. Records for these areas before they became separate counties are Chester County records and are in the Chester County Archives. Post-1729 records for the area that became Lancaster are in Lancaster County . Post-1789 records for the area that became Delaware County are in Delaware County. Berks County was established in 1752, primarily out of Philadelphia and Lancaster Counties, with a very small section coming out of Chester County.
