What could the United States do to improve the world crude oil market?
Mr. Barkindo: It would not be right for OPEC to talk about the actions or inactions of other organizations, governments or in fact any other entity in regards to what they could, should or possibly might do to improve the world crude oil market. However, what OPEC understands and places great credence on is the issue of shared responsibility through dialogue and cooperation. It is vital that we further understand the intricate workings of the oil market and in turn appreciate the needs of each stakeholder. To this end, OPEC continues to devote much effort in this direction, with dialogue now being widened and deepened in an open and constructive spirit.
