What could have been done to avoid the current situation involving liver failure from Serzone?
Ideally, the knowledge that Serzone causes liver failure and other liver damage should have kept the medication off the market. Once it was on the market, Bristol-Meyers could have been more forthcoming with warnings about the liver failure dangers associated with Serzone. Had Bristol-Meyers been more honest about the risk, patients and doctors would have been in a better position to make informed choices about treatment.
