What could be causing my Norfolk Island pine (Araucaria heterophylla) to drop some of its lower branches?
This plant is very unforgiving in that it often sheds needles, twigs, or even entire branches in response to some oversight in its care. Plant in a porous, well-drained medium, water evenly and thoroughly, allowing the soil to dry out somewhat between waterings, and place in a bright, not sunny, location. Give it cool temperatures, good air circulation away from heating and cooling vents, and light fertilization April through August. Reduce watering by about one-third during the winter.
