What could be causing abnormal browning of leaves on a purple leaf maple tree?
This cultivar of Norway maple, Acer platanoides, is susceptible to leaf scorch, both thermal and bacterial. Scorch can be especially severe when temperatures rise suddenly following a period of relatively cool, wet weather. This condition is not life threatening, but watering your tree during prolonged hot, dry spells will help.
