What could Airbus do to support African airlines fund acquisition of new airplanes?
In normal circumstances, aircraft are relatively easy assets to finance: they are mobile, internationally regulated and can, therefore, be easily placed with another airline in case another customer fails. Above all, they are valuable assets that will always hold a significant value. We believe the fly-by-wire technology of Airbus adds an added value to our aircraft because of the possibility to place them easily in the numerous operators around the world operating other member of the Airbus fly-by-wire family of aircraft. The current crisis will not change these facts, but the availability of credit from the banks, could be delayed hopefully temporarily. In these circumstances, Airbus role can be twofold: helping airlines with an aircraft purchasing plans preparing their application file in view of a guarantee from the ECA’s (European Credit Agencies).
