What could a small knot or lump on the lower right side(middle) of my neck be?
I am a doctor, my specialty is otolaryngology. Frankly one of the reasons I am addicted to Yahoo Answers is because so many responses on medical topics are volunteered. It is fascinating how many answers one gets! My answer is that you MUST get this checked out. Here’s why: a painless lump in your neck is considered cancer until PROVEN otherwise. It could be a lymph node…but a painless lymph node might have cancer in it. Infections (except for fungi and TB) cause lymph nodes to be painful. Most often, painless nodes are nothing, but you cannot afford to be wrong and just guess it to be fine. The neck has a lot of important structures/nerves/vessels in it and there isn’t much room for tumors before they cause a lot of trouble. Other possibilities include a thyroid cyst/tumor, branchial cleft cyst or a normal structure. Neither I nor anyone else who is not examining you can tell you precisely what it is. It is extremely unlikely it has anything to do with your work. See an ENT doc, you
