What Cost Recycling?
Lismore residents will be asked how much they value recycling in a major overhaul of Council’s recycling plan that may see charges double. Last week Lismore Council met to consider nine options for the future of recycling in the city as part of a review which began last year. A previous plan to develop supervised drop-off centres was rejected as too costly. The review also comes in the wake an extensive survey of 1,800 people who used the current Drop-Off Centres (DOCs) which suggested that many people recycled primarily to create additional space in their garbage bin. Nine out of 10 people said they were happy with the DOCs, although most said they had experienced problems at the site. The primary complaint was that the skips were often full. Other complained that the site was often untidy.
