The Roman army was weakend for many reasons. First, they were stretched way beyond their limit; it’s hard to patrol all sides of an Empire the size of the Roman Empire today; imagine trying to do so with no computers or satillites. The Romans broke promises to the tribes they defeated, so the tribes would then uprise against the Romans. Contribute both factors, the Romans were being hit from the outside and from within. Once the enemy got a foothold, the Romans lost confidence and fell.

The people no longer wanted to be in the Army. The citizens of Rome stopped thinking being the the Army was a good thing. After that Rome’s best and brightest stayed away.
