To say that Malaysia is Asian is kind of like saying the U.S.A is European, or Egypt is African. While it is true, in many ways, it is inaccurate. Malaysia is on the Eurasian Tectonic Plate, and shares a border with Thailand. However, Bahasa Malaysia (the official language) is an Austronesian Language, and has more in common with the native languages of Hawaii and Madagascar than with China or Viet Nam. There are more than three times as many Muslims in Malaysia than practitioners of any other religion. Nearly 30% of the population is either of Chinese or Indian descent. The country has also been heavily influenced by Indonesia; they share a land border on the island of Borneo. Malaysia was a British colony for a couple centuries. While they have a common ethnic heritage with neighboring nations, like the Philippines, relations with them can be tense. Since part of the country is attached to Southeast Asia, you could probably get away with saying that it’s part of the Asian Continent.
