What continent does Russia belong to?

0

Geographically, about a quarter of Russia is located in Europe, and the rest is in Asia. The Ural Mountains are the traditional boundary between Europe and Asia. So you don’t get confused later on and ask why Russians are considered to be Eastern European, or why Russia is classed as European in sporting competitions, I need to mention that Russia is always discussed as European (historically, politically, culturally, economically, socially, etc.) except in geography. For example, the United Nations considers Russia an Eastern European state ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Unite… ). The reason for this is because most of Russia’s population, about 80%, lives in the European part, and because most of the large cities, including the capital, are in Europe. Russia has played an integral part in European history and politics, and Russians are of European stock.

Technically, it doesn’t belong to either continent. It is usually referred to as a Eurasian country! Despite the seat of Government, the capital and the next largest city (St. Petersburg) all being located in the European part, Russia is not officially a European country!

Eurasia geographically speaking or Europe and Asia commonly speaking:) . More than 80% of Russia lies in Asia.
