What constitutes nutritionally balanced meals and snacks?
Nutritionally balanced meals and snacks should be foods that provide you with an adequate amount of all essential vitmains and minerals as well as the the 5 basic food groups of carbohydrate, dairy, protein, fat and fruit & veg. Your carbohydrate foods should ideally be complex carbohydrates with wholegrains (like wholegrain bread or rice) with minimal fat added to them. You should try and have carbohydrate at every meal. Milk and dairy products; It is recommended to have 2-3 portions from this group a day. A portion would be a 1/3 of a pint of milk, a small matchbox sized piece of cheese, or a small pot of yoghurt. It’s important that we get at least 2 portions/d to ensure we get enough calcium to maintain our teeth and bones, and reduce our long-term risk of osteoperosis. Try and eat the low-fat varieties. It is recommended to have 2-3 portions a day of Meat, fish and alternatives. The foods are high in protein. As we don’t really store protein in our body (except from our muscles) e
