What constitutes a Super League team?
The Super League was formed as a group of 12 clubs (now 18) that wanted to play really hard, serious rugby through the spring and were willing to travel. It was intended as a national league, and has survived as such. Teams wanting to play in the Super League have to submit a proposal showing they have the money, depth and the venue to justify playing in the league. That’s something of a point of contention; some clubs feel they are worthy of Super League status but were rejected, while some have been admitted at the 11th hour without such intensive scrutiny. So Super League teams are not only better on the field, but are better financed, deeper in talent and have nicer fields than DI clubs? That is generally true, but not the whole story.
