The dictionary says that a hypothesis is merely a proposition to explain certain facts. A good hypothesis provides a rational explanation for a curious phenomenon of nature or a fundamental aspect of living systems. The key feature of a good hypothesis is that is makes definite mechanistic predictions that can be tested. It answers the simple question: How does it work?
