What Conservatives Really Believe?
David Edmunds recent letter (Liberalisms Contradictions) begs for a proper list of the characteristics of conservatives, so I propose to start one. His letter provides a nice starting point, with excellent examples of at least two characteristics of conservatives: 1. Conservatives do not realize that big vocabulary and logical argument are not the same thing. 2. Conservatives cannot tell the difference between a contradiction and a non sequitur. At first I thought that juxtaposing unrelated statements and declaring them contradictions was just a result of Mr. Edmunds lack of a logical argument to support his position (which was that the liberal mindset was shallow and superficial), but then I realized that I had seen this many times before in statements made by conservatives. In order to give this list a proper start, we need more than two characteristics, so Im going to go beyond responding directly to Mr. Edmunds letter and add a few additional characteristics that have became eviden
