What consequences might Republican Governors suffer for turning down stimulus money for their states?
Each Governor can do as he pleases as long as it does not hurt the people in his state. I have seen a video in MSNBC about a riot in Louisiana because the Governor has rejected the money for his state, but he told the people he would reduce the unemployment checks and the people turned against him. Arnold Schwarzenegger was in a CNN interview, he was very annoyed and said he was retiring from his party because they had made Governors sign a document by which they accepted to not receive the Federal money. He said California needed that money urgently.
Its principle vs. politics vs. the well being of constituents. If these governors decide to turn down the money for their states, then the people of these states shouldnt be made to contribute in repaying this massive debt. However, if they do accept those funds, I think it would be hypocrital on their part, and the people of those states could possibly suffer. There are LOTS of people in these poor southern states that depend on the government (welfare) for a living.
