What concessions should the U.S. support from Israel and Palestine to ensure lasting peace between these two?
The starting point cannot be more Israeli concessions, and we must never impose an “American Plan.” The focus should be on security guarantees for both sides, and recognition of Israel’s right to exist — but that is ultimately for the Israelis and Palestinians to discuss, directly. Our role is to bring the two parties together and ensure accountability. Israel seeks peace, but as I was reminded while in Israel this summer, Israel needs a partner who also wants peace.
