What complications may arise due to HPV during pregnancy?
HPV and pregnancy can coexist. Hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy can encourage genital warts to grow in size and in number. Sometimes, genital warts (venereal warts or perianal warts) caused by HPV cause problems during pregnancy and delivery as well as to the newborn baby. An expectant mother who has genital warts HPV can transmit the infection to her baby during birth. If the child gets infected, the HPV infection shows up in the baby’s throat or mouth, which can obstruct its airways. This condition is treatable.
