What companywide steps has Medco taken to comply with HIPAA?
Medco invested considerable time and resources to thoroughly understand and prepare to meet its obligations under the HIPAA privacy regulations – both as a pharmacy benefit manager and as a provider of pharmacy care. A Privacy Office was established to provide guidance on privacy matters and to plan for compliance and review of existing and new programs. Our Privacy Office also provides audit and certification capability and support to our Account Management group as that group addresses our clients’ needs to meet their own privacy requirements. We assembled a number of strategic and operational cross-functional teams to support design and implementation, resulting in the development of core capabilities and new functionality demanded by the regulations. We completed an inventory of our products and programs to ensure compliance.
