The Tappan brand is part of the Electrolux group and has been manufacturing home appliances since it was founded in 1881. As one of the oldest manufacturers, Tappan began by selling cast-iron stoves door to door. Since their modest beginning, Tappan has been a forerunner in innovations dating back to the early 1920’s. They are proud to have created the first microwave oven available for home use, developing the electric ignition for gas ranges, and in 1965, they produced a single unit conventional range and microwave oven. In 1979, Electrolux became the proud owner of the Tappan name and has continued to manufacturer Tappan home appliances with the same ingenuity and cutting edge designs that Tappan has become famous for.
