The HDV format was announced in September 2003 with support from Canon, Sharp, Sony and Victor Company of Japan (JVC). Subsequently many more companies have announced support, including non-linear editing software developers such as Adobe, Apple, Avid, Canopus, Pinnacle, Sobey, Sony Pictures Digital Networks and Ulead Systems. By September 2004, more than 28 companies have expressed support for the HDV format.
