What colors or paints were used to paint a particular Walthers or Life-Like loco or piece of rolling stock? Do you have paint samples or recommended color formulas utilizing existing model paints?
Modelers must match paint through trial and error or by eye, using available model railroad paints. The technical and/or historical society of the railroad in question could actually be of more help. They have online modeling forums that suggest particular paints and colors. We are not able to specify a particular color from a particular manufacturer. Typical model railroad paints are not suitable (or economical) for mass production. A paint chip is matched locally and the information is sent to the factory site offshore. There a large volume container of paint is made up. This paint is not suitable for bottling in small quantities and the color numbers do not relate to the part numbers given by modeling companies that produce modeling paints. The paint that is used is a solvent-based paint that is airbrushed on.
