Schist is more of a texture versus a color. A schist is a type of metamorphic rock. What makes a rock fit into the schist catagory is the orientation of the mineral crystals in the rock. They can be most any color. A large portion of them are dark in color being black, grey or greenish because of the minerals that exist under metamorphic conditions.
