What color should we paint the rest of downstairs if the living room is red?

I have a red living room and bonus room(which is attached to liveing room). We painted the rest of the walls grey. I know it sounds weird, but it looks really nice. The top half of the walls are a very, very light grey, and the bottom half is a darker grey about the color of a charcoal grey fur on a cat or something. At first I was scared, I thought the grey would look like prison walls, but the 2-tone just looks great. We did it ourselves too, and it looks professional. Just measure the walls height, and divide by 2. Lets say your wall is 8 feet tall, so at 4 feet you mark a little line horizontally at the edge/corner of one wall. On the opposite corner of the same wall mark another line at 4 feet. Have 1 person on each end of the wall hold ooopsite ends of chalkline firmly against the wall at the marked height. Then get somebody to grab the middle of the line, pull it back, and let it snap against the wall. Get a level to double check the line is straight. If it is, get blue masking
