What Color Of Saran Wrap Kills A Plant Faster?
Plants absorb mostly blue and red wavelengths of light. They reflect green light, therefore a plant appears green to our eyes. Ohhh wait a minute… If you wrap the plant in colored saran wrap, the saran wrap also reflects the color that we see. Ok so the 3 colors of light are red, blue and green. I get it now. So a plant wrapped in green paper would grow just fine, because the green paper reflects green light which the plant does not use anyway. It uses red and blue wavelengths of light. So the red and blue light are still passing through green wrap, so the plant grows just fine. Plants use mostly blue light. Therefore if you wrap a plant in blue saran wrap, you are blocking the blue light waves from reaching the plant…we see blue wrapping paper because blue is reflected back to our eyes. So blue saran wrap will kill plants faster, because it is blocking and reflecting blue light waves away from the plant.
