Bob Knight was born in 1940 in Ohio. He attended Ohio State University and was a reserve player on the Buckeyes 1960 NCAA championship team which also featured future NBA players John Havlicek and Jerry Lucas. He started his college coaching career at West Point which earned him the nickname “The General”. He then was named head coach at Indiana in 1971 where he was pressured into resigning after 29 years in 2000. He led Indiana to three NCAA championships while there. He also led the U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal in 1991. He then accepted the head coaching job at Texas Tech University in 2001. He passed Dean Smith for all time NCAA victories in 2007. He announced his retirement on February of this year. Coach Knight was always considered a controversial coach and got much media attention for his infamous temper.
