We have urged the UN to establish a mechanism in Islamabad to ensure that the necessary links are in place to de-conflict humanitarian and military activities. Currently this is being done at a headquarters level although ad hoc information exchange is taking place in the region. We expect to see these mechanisms formalised soon. In the meantime we are making every effort, together with our US colleagues, to ensure that the humanitarian situation is well understood by military planners.
