What City and State is Marshall University located in?
Marshall University is located in Huntington, West Virginia. My husband spent a lot of time growing up in that area. It’s not a big town and parts of it seem to have not kept up with the times, one thing is for sure, the town still has the very clear memory of a very devastating plane crash. At 7:37pm on Saturday, November 14, 1970, a chartered plane, carrying 75 people crashed into a wooded area just before the airport. All 75 passengers, mostly Marshall University’s Football team died instantly. It was a tragedy that almost completely sunk the town and left Marshall without a football team – something this town really enjoys. The following season, after a lot of hard work and string pulling, Marshall had a team, again. They won the first game, but lost the rest of the season. My husband’s family lost a relative on the plane and many friends, his ex-wife lost a cousin. It was truly a devastating loss to everyone. Click on a player or coach for more information.
