What choices do parents have in public donation and family storage?
Only a limited number of parents actually have the option to donate: • the mother must deliver at a hospital collecting donations, • the mother must pass the health history screening, • the parents must sign-up in advance and/or the baby must be born when collection staff are present. For all other families, the stem cells in the cord blood will be discarded if they do not make private arrangements to store it in a family bank.
