What chinese dynasty did mulan live in?

Apart from a poem written during the era there is little documentation of her existence, and therefore it is hard to pinpoint the exact time frame that she lived in. There isn’t much to say about traditional Chinese gender roles. Women belonged in the house, before AND after marriage. There was no say on the subject, it was a male society and that was that. The Northern and Southern Dynasty was kind of like a warring states era, so there probably weren’t any significant breakthroughs during then.
