The only chemicals released by the mine that are sufficiently important to humans or ecosystems to require close study are various radioactive elements, and magnesium sulfate, which is also known as Epsom Salts. The evidence so far gives a very high degree of confidence that none of these chemicals poses a significant threat to people or ecosystems.
