What chemicals are destroying the ozone layer?

There are trace levels of some gases, such as CFC’s that have reached this layer. Gases, such as R-12, are believed to have some affect on this layer. The level of affect is certainly debatable as the hole is known to have existed for hundreds of years before these gases were created. The largest issue to have been known to affect this area was in the 1800’s. Solar flares were to blame, as CFC’s had not been produced yet.
