What Chemical Should Be Added to a Swimming Pool to Reduce the pH?
The pH in a pool is a reading of how acidic or alkaline the water is. When the pH level is high, the water is said to be alkaline, and when the pH is low, the water is classified as acidic. Making sure a pool’s pH levels are not too high is important. If pool water is alkaline, or has a high pH (generally above 7.8 when tested with a test kit), the water can get cloudy, irritate the eyes of swimmers, reduce the effectiveness of chlorine or become susceptible to algae growth.
