What Characterized True Faith?
That faith which acknowledges its dependence upon God characterizes true faith. It is a faith which promptly responds to the will of God without wavering. It is a faith which is ready to follow God — trusting him fully even in the most trying circumstances. This seems the special intent of our theme text, addressed as it may well have been to all who desire the relationship of Abrahamic children. “Look unto Abraham your father,” observe his obedient faith, note his long years of trial and triumph and see how “I called him, and blessed him, and increased him.” Abraham is the father of the faithful. Benefit can be derived, then, by observing how he was blessed and increased. Was there ever a greater trial of faith borne by any servant of God? Many severe tests of faith came to others.
