What characteristics make a good search dog?
Physically the dog should be medium-sized. If the dog is too small, it won’t have the stamina to cover the terrain or deal with the cold. If the dog is too large it may have problems dealing with the heat. Injuries can occur in the field (ex: barbed wire fence, cut pads) and you may have to carry your dog out to safety. The dog should be able to swim, have a high prey/play drive, and be well socialized.
