What characteristics does an au pair need to have?
The au pair needs to be between the ages of 17/18 to 29/30. However, the age of the au pair may vary between countries. For more information please see our section regarding visas and regulations. He or she needs to have a predisposition for child care. It is preferable if he or she already has previous experience. The au pair needs to have at least basic knowledge of the native language of the country in which he or she will be living. The au pair needs to be of good health and can not have a criminal record. In order to be an au pair a High School Diploma is generally required. The Au pair is in no way a like maid or a nursing home worker, and needs to participate in family life as a member of that family.
