Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ has announced the termination of contracts with the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), which includes Pennsylvania Hospital, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. These facilities will be considered “out of network” beginning April 10, 2009. Since NJ DIRECT members are entitled to BlueCard Benefits through their plan, they can continue use of these facilities. On January 16, 2009, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ announced that an agreement with The Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) had been reached. CHOP will continue to be “in-network” for members of NJ DIRECT. This includes CHOP facilities and providors in New Jersey.
