What changes expected in cough after quit smoking?
There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, the chemicals in cigarettes irritate the throat and at the same time mask the irritation. When we quit our body starts to repair itself. This can cause people to cough. Think of it like a scratch on your hand, when it heals it gets a bit itchy. Well this is what happens in your throat. It is a good sign of the body getting better. Secondly, smoking paralyses little hairs in our airways. These hairs usually act as brooms to keep the airway clear. When we quit it takes anywhere between 3 days to 2 weeks for these hairs to start working properly again. As they begin to work properly people usually cough up a lot of muck , which although is unpleasant is a good sign as well. People will often use a throat lozenge to help the irritation of the throat. Just think of it as a process. It`s just your body trying to get itself back into shape.
