What causes water to run into toilet bowl?
If water is trickling into the toilet bowl all the time, it is usually caused by the failure of the flush valve (the rubber flapper or ball) in the tank. First, look inside of tank to see that the flapper or ball is properly aligned with the valve seat. If you note that the flush valve will stop the trickle with some light hand-applied pressure, then it could be the seat has accumulated sediment or hard water deposits. Wiping the seat down an abrasive scrub pad may be all it needs. If the flush valve itself is brittle, or mis-shapen, it’s a pretty quick fix. It may be best to shut off the water to the toilet and bring the flapper or ball down for reference. 80% of the toilets out there use 1 of 2 common types, but just in case you’ve got one of the 20% toilets, bring it with you.
