What causes vapor lock?

Vapor lock is typically experienced during warm weather, when fuel in a vehicles fuel lines will vaporize. A positive displacement (in-tank electric) will have no trouble with vapor lock. The old mechanical suction type pumps do not do well when vaporized fuel is in the lines, since vaporized fuel is not as dense as liquid fuel. The situation is nearly the same as when such a car has run out of fuel. It can, and eventually will, start, but it will take alot of cranking.
