• Sometimes a compilation aborts or is killed in such a way that it does not release the lock it is holding on the cache. This situation could occur in old compiler versions. Newer versions and current patches to older compilers ensure that the lock is released no matter how the compiler exits. You could remove just the lock file, but the cache is probably corrupted, and will cause further problems. The safest fix is to delete the entire template cache. • The template cache must be writable by the compiler process. Refer to the umask(1) man page for more information.
