What causes the staining on Annie’s teeth?
Certain medications Annie is on changes the make-up of her saliva which causes the staining on her teeth. She uses an electric toothbrush with baking soda every day, but the staining still occurs. It does not harm her teeth, but actually acts as a natural sealant, so even though they get stained, she has very healthy teeth. Annie goes to the dentist every 6 months for in-office cleanings, but because she doesn’t tolerate those visits well due to her strong oral aversion, she will continue to have cleanings done at the hospital under general anesthesia every couple of years. Permanent teeth that will start coming in are not as susceptible to this staining as her baby teeth are. Annie’s teeth before her dental surgery with 6 months worth of staining, and Annie’s teeth after her dental surgery.
