The Metro State College e-mail system does indeed get very slow and even bogged down at times. There are a few reasons for this, and if avoided, can help keep the colleges e-mail system running smoothly and swiftly. The slow down of our e-mail service has been associated with a variety of mass mailings-usually messages posted to several MSCD distribution lists at once. Posting one message to only one of these lists will result in over 10,000 messages being delivered to over 10,000 in-boxes on our mail server. In addition, the mail server must scan each and every message for viruses. You can see, then, why posting to two or three of the lists can cause e-mail to become painfully slow.
