What causes strep throat? Where does it start or come from?

most cases of sore throat and runny noses are caused by viral infection (rhinovirus, coronavirus), and antibiotics are useless against them so nothing can be done with it, but they are self-limiting and should resolve within a week a true case of strep throat is caused by a bacteria streptococcus pyogenes and would respond to antibiotics. it can come from anywhere as it is a very common bacteria and most people just have them in their throat but its not causing them any problems based on clinical history and examination a doctor can’t really differentiate between a case of viral infection or if its bacterial in nature so generally they would prescribe antibiotics if the patient is in a worse condition ie high fever or if the sore throat has not resolved by itself. usually doctors try not prescribe antibiotics to everyone because bacteria can eventually develop resistance to antibiotics if they are overprescribed to every people.
